ForgeStar-1: Pioneering the UK’s Orbital Chip Foundry in Space

ForgeStar-1, the UK’s first in-space manufacturing mission, launched June 12, 2025, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg. Built in Wales, the reusable satellite will test the Pridwen heat shield during re-entry and operate autonomously to produce semiconductor materials in microgravity. The mission is licensed by the UK Civil Aviation Authority and backed by a £22.6 million Series A round.

SpaceX Wins $81.6 Million U.S. Space Force Deal to Launch WSF-M2 Weather Satellite in 2027

SpaceX won an $81.6 million U.S. Space Force contract to launch the WSF-M2 weather satellite and BLAZE-2 rideshare on Falcon 9 from Vandenberg SFB in early FY2027. This is SpaceX’s third consecutive NSSL Phase 3 Lane 1 award. The WSF-M2 satellite, built by BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems, will help replace aging DMSP weather assets. SpaceX’s price is about 25% lower than typical Phase 2 launch costs.
