Finally, Minecraft’s Copper Age Update Arrives – Golems, New Gear & More

  • Release: The Copper Age (Game Drop 3 of 2025) launched Sep 30, 2025 as a free update for all Minecraft Bedrock and Java players .
  • New Tools & Armor: Players can now craft full copper gear – swords, pickaxes, armor and even horse armor – making copper a tool/armor tier between stone and iron Minecraft Sportskeeda. Copper armor is more durable than leather but slightly weaker than iron Minecraft .
  • Copper Golem & Chest: A new storage system was added. Place items in a Copper Chest and a player-created Copper Golem (made from copper blocks plus a carved pumpkin) will automatically sort items into nearby chests Minecraft Windowscentral. Mojang describes the golem as a “handy, organization-loving companion” that “sorts them based on item type into chests around your base” Minecraft Windowscentral.
  • Decorative Copper & Shelves: The update adds new copper decorative blocks – green copper torches and lanterns, copper chains and bars – all of which slowly oxidize (turn green) over time Minecraft Mmorpg. It also introduces Shelf blocks that can display up to three items; powered by Redstone, shelves let you swap all displayed items with your hotbar in one click .
  • Oxidation & Wax: Copper items now age visually: they gradually oxidize to green like the Statue of Liberty. Players can stop or reverse this by waxing with honeycomb or scraping with an axe Mmorpg Windowscentral. (A fully oxidized Copper Golem even becomes a decorative statue, which can be restored by waxing .)
  • Community Context: Fans have long awaited useful copper content – PC Gamer calls copper “Minecraft’s least useful ore” finally getting “long-awaited new crafting recipes” with this update Pcgamer. The Copper Age is the third major drop of 2025, following Chase the Skies earlier this year. Mojang also teased the next drop (“Mounts of Mayhem,” with underwater mounts) at Minecraft Live 2025 Pcgamer.

The Copper Age Update

On September 30, 2025, Mojang officially “entered The Copper Age”, rolling out Game Drop 3 of 2025. Minecraft’s blog excitedly proclaims that players can now “express yourself in every shade of copper” as they use the versatile metal for tools, light sources, smart storage, and even lively mechanical companions known as copper golems Windowscentral. In its trademark tone, the developers say “this is the start of a new clonking era of creativity!” Windowscentral. In short, copper – an ore mostly used for decoration since its introduction – finally gets a wealth of new uses.

This update is free to all players on Java and Bedrock (Windows, consoles, mobile, etc.) – “our third game drop of 2025” – so everyone can simply update the game to explore the new features Minecraft. The Copper Age drop follows two earlier 2025 updates (including the Chase the Skies biome expansion) and comes ahead of the teased Mounts of Mayhem drop later this year Pcgamer.

New Copper Gear and Tools

The Copper Age makes copper a bona fide equipment tier. As the changelog asks rhetorically, “What comes between stone and iron? Now the answer is: copper!” Minecraft. That means you can craft copper swords, pickaxes, axes, shovels, and a full set of copper armor (helmet, chestplate, etc.), along with copper horse armor. These tools and armor have stats between stone and iron: copper armor is sturdier than leather but slightly weaker than iron Minecraft Minecraft, and copper tools break blocks faster than stone but wear out faster than iron. (If you smelt copper tools, they even yield nuggets.)

This change fulfills a long-time player request. Copper ore is abundant early in worlds, so having a usable tier means beginners can gear up faster. “After four long years,” notes PC Gamer, Mojang is finally “making copper useful” by giving it new crafting recipes Pcgamer. Indeed, gaming news sites point out that many modpacks have had copper tools for years, and now vanilla Minecraft catches up.

Copper Golem & Smart Storage

One of the biggest highlights is the Copper Golem – a new friendly mob that runs your storage. To use it, build a Copper Chest (crafting uses a regular Chest plus copper ingots) and then spawn a golem by placing a carved pumpkin or jack-o’-lantern on top of a Copper block Minecraft Windowscentral. The copper chest can hold items like a normal chest, but whenever you dump items into it, the copper golem will wander around and sort those items by type into other chests you’ve placed.

In the official words, copper golems are “organization-loving companions that’ll bring your base to life!” Minecraft. Players delight that “new chests that can be sorted without mods” are now possible – one Windows Central reporter exclaimed “Are you kidding me? This is awesome!” at the convenience Windowscentral. The golem itself slowly oxidizes to green over time (just like copper blocks), so you’ll need to wax it with honeycomb to preserve it. If it fully oxidizes, it turns into a Copper Golem Statue block (a cool decorative pose) which you can later reactivate by waxing Windowscentral.

Shelves and Copper Decorations

Beyond tools and storage, the Copper Age adds lots of cosmetic and convenience blocks. For builders and decorators, there are new copper variants of existing items: a green-tinted copper torch, copper lantern, copper chain, and copper bars Minecraft. All these oxidize over time, gradually shifting from a bright orange to a muted green – adding dynamic visual variety to builds. Redstone engineers will notice that even lightning rods (which were already copper) now age and change color as well.

The update also introduces shelf blocks – a kind of wall-mounted shelf that holds up to three item stacks. Crafting a shelf uses six stripped logs of any wood type. When placed, you can interact with each slot to swap the shelf’s item with the item in your hand Minecraft. Cleverly, shelves can be powered by Redstone: a powered shelf will automatically swap its contents with the rightmost items in your hotbar Minecraft. Three connected powered shelves let you swap six or all nine items at once, so you can instantly change your inventory for a new task. This “functional decoration” has players already brainstorming uses for quick tool swaps and display cases.

“Plus, shelves and the lively mechanical companions” like the golem give creative players new ways to customize bases and contraptions, as the official blog notes Windowscentral Minecraft. One journalist even joked about wanting copper doors that creak differently as they age – a testament to how the community is excitedly exploring every new copper detail Windowscentral.

Copper Aging & Waxing

All new copper content comes with the famous “age over time” mechanic from Minecraft’s copper blocks. In practice, every copper block – whether you make a Copper Chest, craft copper armor, or spawn a copper golem – will slowly oxidize from orange to green after exposure. To give players control, the update brings beeswax (from honeycomb) as a tool. Waxes can “freeze” a copper block at its current stage, preventing further aging, or an axe can scrape off one layer of oxidation Mmorpg.

Minecraft.net explains that this adds an interesting twist – as MMORPG.com puts it, copper will “oxidize over time, causing it to change color much like the famous Statue of Liberty,” but “using beeswax can help slow that process, and an axe can entirely refine it” Mmorpg. The waxing mechanic means you can keep your shiny copper items looking new if you choose, or let them weather for a rustic aesthetic. (Just remember to wax your Copper Golems, or they’ll quietly turn into statues and stop working until you restore them.)

Community Reaction and Significance

Players and press have greeted the Copper Age with enthusiasm. Many saw this update as overdue. PC Gamer’s Stevie Bonifield sums it up: “Minecraft’s least useful ore is getting some long-awaited new crafting recipes” Pcgamer. Windows Central’s Michael Hoglund agrees that item-sorting “without mods” is a huge boon, calling the new Copper Golems “cute little Copper Golems” and exclaiming how it fulfills a long-standing wish Windowscentral Windowscentral. Sportskeeda and other outlets note that since copper was added in 2021 (Caves & Cliffs), players have eagerly awaited these capabilities.

At launch, Mojang even included a three-part “Copper Cape” in-game quest for players to earn a special cape by interacting with the update’s features. It’s clear that “copper is your canvas” in this drop – Mojang promises players can “reimagine their home base” with the fresh orange-and-green aesthetic and clever new blocks Minecraft. The overall message is that creative and technical players alike now have many new toys, and many in the community are already sharing build and Redstone ideas in response.

What’s Next: Beyond Copper

While players are busy smelting ore and building copper-themed castles, Minecraft Live 2025 has already teased the future. The livestream highlighted that later this year the game will receive the Mounts of Mayhem update, introducing rideable underwater mounts (like dolphins or sea creatures) Pcgamer. Other collaborations (like an upcoming Dragon Ball Z event) and small media releases were also teased alongside the Copper Age news.

In the meantime, the Copper Age update is ready to play today. Just update Minecraft through your launcher (Java or Bedrock) and step into the copper-powered future. From automated sorting golems to steampunk-worthy copper armor, this drop offers a blend of practical and decorative features that many players have long hoped for Pcgamer Windowscentral. As Mojang encourages: fire up your furnace and dive into The Copper Age – it’s a clonking new chapter for Minecraft fans!
