Moderna, Inc. NASDAQ:MRNA rose 9.93% on Tuesday. The shares closed at $154.27 after touching $154.70 Yahoo Finance market data.

The move added an estimated $5.6 billion of market value. That was more than twice Moderna’s new $2.6 billion convertible financing.

Moderna also set two September investor appearances on Tuesday. The events keep its oncology case before institutions after a sharp August repricing company announcement.

Moderna’s gain stood out on a weak tape. The Nasdaq Composite fell 1.0% as oil and bond yields climbed Associated Press.

The central asset is intismeran, developed with Merck & Co., Inc. NYSE:MRK. Its Phase 3 melanoma trial met recurrence-free and distant-metastasis-free survival endpoints Merck release.

The companies called the improvements statistically significant and clinically meaningful. They did not disclose effect sizes, patient-level data or overall-survival results. Those figures will shape the commercial case.

Valuation now dwarfs reported liquidity

The operating base remains small beside that valuation. Second-quarter revenue was $145 million, while the net loss reached $782 million. Cash and investments fell to $6.9 billion SEC-filed results.

The company priced $2.6 billion of zero-coupon notes due in 2032. A capped-call hedge initially protects against dilution up to $392.6175 per share offering terms.

Commercial breadth is improving. The Food and Drug Administration approved mFLUSIVA for adults aged 50 and older on August 5 FDA record. Moderna still targets up to 10% revenue growth this year.

Chief Executive Stéphane Bancel called the second quarter “another period of strong execution.” He said it “strengthened our financial profile” company results. The new financing gives management more time to convert clinical wins into sales.

Risks: Full Phase 3 data could weaken the implied benefit. Regulatory review, personalized manufacturing costs and dilution also remain material. Overall-survival data are still pending.

Investors now need numbers. Trial effect sizes and filing timing matter more than conference attendance. Until then, Moderna’s valuation rests mainly on oncology execution.
