OnePay Launches $50,000 Loans Amid Near Five-Year Peak in U.S. Credit Applications

OnePay Launches $50,000 Loans Amid Near Five-Year Peak in U.S. Credit Applications

New York, July 21, 2026, 06:09 EDT – OnePay has introduced $50,000 personal loans in response to a surge in U.S. credit applications, which have climbed to their highest level in almost five years.

  • OnePay offers loans between $1,000 and $50,000, with APRs from 7.74% to 35.99%.
  • Upgrade provides the lending infrastructure, and credit is issued by partner banks.
  • Walmart stock was set to open down 1.8% in premarket action.

Walmart’s fintech arm, OnePay, began offering personal loans of up to $50,000 on Monday, expanding its app’s services beyond payments and checkout financing.

Investors focus on the funding setup rather than the advertised cap. Upgrade provides the platform, and its partner banks handle issuing loans and credit lines.

The model may reduce the amount of direct credit risk Walmart faces. It further introduces a new offering intended to retain financial transactions within OnePay.

The moment is advantageous. U.S. credit applications in June climbed to their strongest reading since October 2021. According to the New York Fed, the rejection rate increased to 16.1%.

The loan amount is the critical point for investors. Since 2017, Upgrade has provided upwards of $50 billion to more than 8 million customers.

Based on those rounded figures, a sample estimate stands at approximately $6,250 per customer. This figure does not represent an official average loan or balance. It calculates to around one-eighth of the maximum offered by OnePay.

This indicates that initial economics could depend on transaction volume rather than $50,000 ticket sizes. The focus may shift towards conversion rates and repeat borrowing.

OnePay’s limit reaches five times higher than PayPal’s cap for checkout financing. Its interest rate range falls both under and over the average for bank loans.

Customers who qualify are able to view rates, agree to terms, and handle repayments through the app. OnePay banking customers could get funds on the same day.

The launch announcement did not specify an origination target, approval percentage, or how revenue would be divided. These missing details are significant for Walmart investors.

As of 06:09 EDT, Nasdaq’s normal trading hours were yet to begin. Walmart shares were seen at $112.20, a decrease of 1.8% from the previous close and down 2.2% compared to one week ago.

In the coming week, investors will monitor application conversion rates and the size of funded tickets. The company did not specify when these updates will be provided.

Risks: The maximum APR of 35.99% could prompt consumer-protection issues and affect reputation. Walmart also notes increasing oversight on nonbank lenders, privacy matters and the actions of partners.

This remains a distribution play for the time being. Greater engagement is the potential gain, as Walmart has not revealed its loan book. The value will be determined by funded volume.
