Vanguard Morningstar Total Stock Market ETF NYSEARCA:VTI gained 2.0%, trading at $381.15 during the afternoon. Advanced Micro Devices NASDAQ:AMD advanced 9.0% to $528.32. U.S. markets stayed open with roughly an hour remaining in the standard session.

However, AMD did not make up the bulk of the fund’s performance. Early attribution calculations with Quiver Quantitative’s listed weights point to a 0.094 percentage point impact, accounting for roughly 6% of VTI’s prior 1.5% increase.
Broadcom delivered the highest estimated contribution among the four stocks, with NVIDIA, Palantir, and Micron following.
VTI’s returns largely mirrored the overall market. QQQ, which is weighted toward technology, stood apart as the distinct exception.

The comparison indicates widespread involvement, but highlights dominant performance from the technology sector. A total-market designation does not imply every holding has the same level of impact.

According to Quiver’s snapshot, the six firms accounted for roughly 49% of VTI’s 1.5% gain. Broadcom made a contribution nearly double that of AMD. The figure is based on multiplying each disclosed weight by the respective stock return.
VTI continues to hold a broad mix of company sizes. However, technology accounted for 42.3% of its assets based on Vanguard’s portfolio as of May 31. Major holdings included NVIDIA, Apple, Microsoft and Broadcom.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index climbed roughly 5.8% on Tuesday. The S&P technology sector advanced 3.5%, but seven out of eleven sectors posted declines. On both main exchanges, the number of advancing stocks surpassed decliners by more than two to one.
“The AI earnings performance has been fantastic,” said Eric Parnell, chief market strategist at Great Valley Advisor Group. According to him, investors should separate lasting winners from companies that are less robust. Reuters
Monday’s published technical framework was also surpassed by price action. Stock Traders Daily had noted $377.20 as the breakout level for VTI.

VTI was trading at $381.15, reaching approximately 52% of the range from trigger to target. Stock Traders Daily classified its near-term and mid-term indicators as neutral. Its assessment for the long term remained strong.
On July 31, a TipRanks screen reflected the same split in outlook. Nine bullish and three bearish signals came from moving averages. Oscillators signaled a Strong Sell, but the general technical consensus stayed at Buy.
