  • Finished-goods inventory increased $1.08 billion in six months.

The useful investor signal is not the online noise. It is Tesla’s resale-value policy against its limited model disclosure. Cybertruck remains buried inside an “Other Models” delivery basket.

Tesla Canada’s published process accepts passenger cars, trucks, vans and SUVs. Offers reflect configuration, history, mileage, age, market data and Tesla’s product knowledge. Each offer lasts 30 days or 1,600 kilometres.

That short validity window matters. It lets Tesla reset residual assumptions as wholesale prices move. Owners carry the risk if used values weaken before delivery.

Tesla delivered 480,126 vehicles in the second quarter. Model 3 and Model Y supplied 467,762 units. All other models contributed just 12,364.

The 2.6% figure is the central constraint. Investors cannot isolate Cybertruck volume or revenue from Tesla’s release. Resale offers may reveal pressure sooner than quarterly filings.

Finished-goods inventory rose to $5.93 billion by June. That was $1.08 billion, or 22.3%, above December. Total inventory increased 11.0% to $13.75 billion.

The stock’s rally reflects a wider product story. Reuters reported an August Cybercab rollout plan and a separate agreement covering 500 Tesla Semi trucks. Neither development measures Cybertruck resale demand.

Analyst disagreement is wide. The three-month target range spans $130 to $505. Cybertruck residuals alone will not settle that debate.

Risks: Owner quotes may differ from completed trade-in prices. Tesla can also alter eligibility or valuations. A further inventory rise, falling used prices or new safety actions would make the signal more negative.

The next clean test is Tesla’s third-quarter delivery report. A narrower Other Models basket and lower finished goods would weaken the bearish resale reading.

What matters now

Tesla controls trade-in offer timing, while investors lack a standalone Cybertruck volume line. Watch completed resale prices and finished-goods inventory together. If both weaken, margin pressure can arrive before model-level disclosure does.

Offer life: 30 days / 1,600 kmAuto margin: 16.9%Q2 auto revenue: $20.52bn

Risk check

Trade-in estimates are not completed sales. A Cybercab launch, stronger total deliveries or lower Q3 inventory could overwhelm the resale signal. New safety actions would move it the other way.
