- The group ended Friday with a combined value of $6.03 trillion. A simultaneous 1% shift would represent around $60.3 billion.
- The S&P 500 dropped 1.01% on Friday, with the Nasdaq declining 1.40%. The Philadelphia chip index tumbled roughly 10% during the week.
- Alphabet and Tesla will post results Wednesday after markets close, with Intel scheduled for an earnings call Thursday evening.
U.S. markets remained shut on Sunday following a week of losses for technology shares. Attention now shifts to three firms with a combined valuation of $6.03 trillion, which may influence the next market move.
Concentration remains the main market risk this week. A 1% move in either direction alters around $60.3 billion in market capitalization, while a 5% swing would impact approximately $302 billion.
Alphabet accounts for nearly 70% of the group’s total value, making its performance the most influential in the main indexes.
The market environment deteriorated significantly last week. The S&P 500 declined 1.01% on Friday to end at 7,457.69. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 1.40% to close at 25,520.24. Each of the three main indexes posted a weekly loss.
Semiconductor shares bore the brunt of Friday’s broad market decline. The Philadelphia SE Semiconductor Index dropped around 10% over the week, finishing more than 20% under its record high reached in late June.
However, the overall earnings bar is still at an unusually elevated level. Out of 49 S&P 500 companies that have reported to date, 90% have surpassed expectations. Analysts are now estimating total second-quarter profits to grow by around 26%.

Early projections: Google Finance consensus provides figures for Alphabet and Intel. Tesla’s numbers are its July 17 company-compiled sell-side averages, not endorsed by Tesla.
Alphabet is set to face the initial major test on Wednesday. Analysts’ consensus for revenue points to an increase of approximately 21% compared to last year’s $96.43 billion. Earnings per share are projected to grow by around 26%.
Kevin Mahn, chief investment officer at Hennion & Walsh, emphasized the importance of spending. He warned that a reduction may trigger “ripple effects across the entire AI ecosystem,” he said. Reuters
The investment outlook could offset a modest earnings beat. Investment in AI has boosted shares of chipmakers and data center providers.
Tesla poses a separate challenge, with investors watching both its delivery numbers and cash flow. The company delivered 480,126 vehicles and installed 13.5 GWh of energy storage in the last quarter. Analysts on average expect revenue of $27.58 billion and a gross margin of 19.5%.
Cash remains the clearer metric for long-term investors. The projection shows $6.70 billion in capital expenditures. The outlook also anticipates free cash flow of negative $3.25 billion. Tesla shares are valued at approximately 349 times trailing profits.
Intel serves as the main gauge for the hardware cycle. The company’s stock has jumped over 160% in 2026. This advance now stands in contrast to a bear market in the chip index.
Analysts expect revenue of $14.42 billion and earnings of 22 cents per share. The revenue outlook suggests an increase of about 12% from the same period last year.
The three reports examine different aspects of the same popular trade. Alphabet gauges AI demand and infrastructure investment, Tesla reflects monetization, margins and cash flow, while Intel tracks the resilience of the hardware cycle.
Risks: A flare-up in U.S.-Iran tensions led Gulf stock markets down on Sunday. Oil prices gained over 4% on Friday, with shipping through Hormuz declining. Increased energy prices may spur inflation and rekindle rate concerns.
Alphabet’s size positions Wednesday as the most prominent market indicator. Results from Tesla and Intel will reveal if the downturn remains contained. Strong performances from all three could help stabilize the unsettled AI sector. However, a single disappointing forecast might extend the decline to a wider range of growth stocks.
