  • Stocks Close Mixed as Tensions Hit Market, Oil Jumps
July 9, 2026, 5:51 AM EDT. U.S. stock indexes ended Wednesday with uneven moves, hit by worries over Iran and a pop in oil prices. The S&P 500 slipped 0.28%, Dow lost 1.09%. Nasdaq 100 managed a 0.27% gain after pulling up from a three-week low. Pressure hit after President Trump said the U.S. would end its ceasefire with Iran following strikes near the Strait of Hormuz. WTI crude oil prices shot up more than 4%, setting a two-week high. That stoked inflation fears, with the 10-year Treasury yield jumping to 4.59%, its highest in about six weeks. The Fed's latest minutes kept a hawkish tilt, citing inflation risks. Still, strong Q2 profit forecasts, around +23% and led by AI infrastructure stocks, gave some optimism for equities.
