The European Space Agency’s Gaia telescope ended its observation phase in January 2025 after collecting over three trillion measurements of about two billion celestial objects. In September 2025, scientists unveiled a 3D map built from 44 million stars, showing the Milky Way’s star-forming regions in unprecedented detail, including 87 rare O-type infant stars and familiar nebulae such as Orion and Gum.
