Florida House moves to cap property tax hikes — and voters say insurance relief comes first

Florida’s House Ways & Means Committee advanced HJR 213, a measure to slow the growth of assessed property values for local non-school taxes. House staff warned the change could cut local tax revenue by $1.7 billion in fiscal 2027-28. The proposal would cap increases on homestead assessments at 3% over three years. Maui County set a Feb. 20 deadline for the second installment of its 2025–26 property taxes.
