Superwood vs Steel: How This “10x-Strong” Wood Could Revolutionize Construction
InventWood will begin producing Superwood, an engineered timber up to 10 times stronger by weight than steel, at its new Frederick, Maryland factory this summer. The material, developed by Professor Liangbing Hu, is made by chemically treating and compressing wood to align cellulose nanofibers. Superwood is fire-rated and weather-resistant, with first batches aimed at building facades. Full-scale production is set for 2025.
