S&P 500, Nasdaq, Dow edge higher as chip names catch a bid

U.S. stocks climbed Thursday morning as buyers moved back into big tech and chip names. Investors continued to track inflation numbers, Middle East tension, and the Fed’s direction. According to delayed LSEG figures via Reuters, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.68% to 50,258.33, the Nasdaq Composite added 0.61% to 25,323.80 and the S&P 500 was up 0.51% at 7,304.00. Quotes lag at least 15 minutes.

Chip stocks took another hit Thursday as investors kept tallying up what the AI wave is costing. The PHLX Semiconductor Index, or SOX, dropped 3.57% on Wednesday. Oracle’s numbers, out after the bell, only raised more doubts about how much more cash—debt and equity—will be needed to fund the AI push before chipmakers actually see lasting profits from demand.

Nasdaq rises as AI names find support after market selloff

Nasdaq leads gains as chip stocks bounce; Dow flat U.S. equities ended in the green Monday after buyers returned to technology and chip stocks. Nasdaq Composite led with a 1.27% gain, closing up 329.47 points at 26,036.94. The S&P 500 rose 47.67 points, or 0.63%, to 7,430.49. The Dow posted a small advance, up just 6.62 points, or 0.01%, to 50,871.37. The Philadelphia SE Semiconductor Index added 6.2%. “A little bit of bargain hunting,” said Rick Meckler, partner at Cherry Lane Investments.
