  • FTSE 100 Old Economy Stocks Gain Focus as Market Shifts to Cash Flow
April 1, 2026, 7:34 AM EDT. Despite recent declines, the FTSE 100 remains above 10,000 points, reflecting a shift from high-growth, long-duration stocks to companies with strong near-term cash flows. Glencore's shares have rebounded to 2022 highs despite weaker earnings, as the market values its solid cash generation and copper exposure amid energy transition. HSBC is viewed less as a traditional bank and more as a high-yield cash flow machine, benefiting from a higher sustained interest rate environment and offering a dividend yield of 4.6% supported by buybacks.
