Micron Technology, Inc. said Saturday it’s kicked off commercial output at its new semiconductor assembly and testing plant in Sanand, Gujarat, touting it as India’s first facility of this kind. According to the memory-chip manufacturer, phase one is targeting more than 500,000 square feet of cleanroom space. The company delivered its first batch of locally made memory modules to Dell Technologies for laptops manufactured in India. Chief executive Sanjay Mehrotra called the milestone “a proud moment.” India’s electronics minister Ashwini Vaishnaw called it the country’s “first commercial semiconductor chip production.”
